Bear Birthday Party Ideas for 1 Year Old Boy

Sharing teddy bear birthday party ideas from our son’s first birthday party!

For my son Brayden’s first birthday party, I spent some time thinking of and researching fun birthday party ideas for a 1 year old boy.

I settled on a bear birthday party or a teddy bear birthday party theme! Our new DIY vertical shiplap wall made the perfect backdrop for the decor!

Here is how I decided on this theme. For my oldest son Jackson’s first birthday, we did a twinkle twinkle little star themed first birthday party which I loved. It wasn’t over the top, but it was perfect for him and easy to do. So, for Brayden, again I wanted something cute, easy, and that fit his personality.

While browsing Pinterest, I came across Alyson Haley’s beary first birthday party for her son and I absolutely loved the theme idea and the way she decorated for it!

Further, it was perfect for Brayden because we like to call him our Brayden bear and I also love dressing him in baby clothes from the GAP which have a lot of bears on them.

With the theme finalized, I started planning cute and sweet bear themed party ideas and decor that would be fast, easy, and budget friendly!

But, you can actually apply these same first birthday ideas to any party theme!

Teddy bear birthday party cake topper

This personalized, wooden, bear cake topper may be one of my favorite decor buys from the entire party! Not only is it adorable, but the quality is amazing!

I didn’t have time to order a fancy bear theme cake from a bakery. Plus, the pricing on those cakes start at well over $100. With this cake topper all I had to do was place it on top of a black and white cake we ordered from Whole Foods. Super easy, cute, and budget friendly!

Bear paw cookies

For some themed treats, I came across these peanut butter blossom bear paw cookies on Pinterest. Another easy and cute project. Thankfully, my mother in law made these for the party since I was low on time!

Happy birthday banner, bear banner, & monthly photo banner

I have to admit that I spent way too much time late at night researching for bear birthday banners online.

This is one of those crafts I could tackle myself and get it exactly the way I want it. But, again I was really short on time due to a huge work project. Plus all of my Cricut machines are in boxes until we finish our office makeover…

Finally, I discovered this happy birthday banner and bear banner set! The colors were perfect and the bear and daisy flowers are super sweet and not tacky at all. Again another amazing quality purchase from Etsy!

I also created a photo banner using 12 monthly photos from Brayden’s first year! I ordered the photos with a white border from Mpix and hung them on some white ribbon with these mini wooden clothes pins.

The combo of all three banners really made the bear birthday party theme come all together!

Balloons in bear colors

Originally I was going to order brown, tan, and white balloons online. But, last minute it was just easier to get them from our local party store. I also picked up a #1 balloon in white.

Another easy way to decorate for a themed birthday party!

Bear birthday party cupcake toppers for party favors

For our party favors we bought cupcakes from Sugar bakery here in Charleston and I added these editable and printable teddy bear cupcake toppers that I also found on Etsy.

I had them printed at our local Staples on card stock. Also, I had this circle cutter from my wedding crafting days which was perfect for cutting them out. Then, Jackson and I taped them to kebab skewer sticks that I cut in half!

Bear first year milestone poster

The same Etsy store that I bought the cupcake toppers from had several, adorable matching bear first birthday party printables and I couldn’t resist this bear first year milestone poster!

I created it in an 8×10 size and had printed at our local Staples who printed it on high quality card stock for less than $1! I put it in a black picture frame we already had. Super low cost but looks high end!

Bear plates

Themed paper plates is another easy idea for creating a themed first birthday party! There were a lot of tacky bear paper plates that I came across, but these bear paper plates were perfect and the perfect shade of brown/tan!
